Team News
Portugal
Wingers Silvestre Varela and Ricardo Quaresma both sat out of training
in the week with minor injuries, though the latter should be in
contention to feature against the country in which he plies his trade
with Besiktas.
Patricio could return in goal to replace Beto, though Eduardo is also vying for the number one jersey ahead of the Euros. Paulo Bento may want to test out youngster Nelson Oliveira as the side
continue to struggle to find a goal threat from central areas.
Probable lineups : Patricio, Coentrao, Alves, Pepe, Pereira, Moutinho, Veloso, Meireles, Ronaldo, Almeida, Nani.
Turkey
Regular starting full-backs Gonul and Koybasi are both out of the squad through injury. Umut Bulut could partner Burak Yilmaz if Turkey opt for a 4-4-2,
otherwise Real Madrid duo Altintop and Sahin may hope to start, despite
severely limited playing time at club level.
Probable lineups : Demirel, Kurtulus, Irtegun, Kaya, Kaldirim, Tore, Topal, Belozoglu, Turan, Bulut, Yilmaz.
Prediction
Portugal come into this game off of the back of consecutive 0-0 draws,
most recently and disappointingly against Macedonia, which goes against
the stereotype that they are a real attacking threat but weak at the
back.
Portugal will, as usual, look to attack down the flanks, though Turkey's
most dangerous players are also stationed wide and the opposing
full-backs will need to be on the ball.
The fact that Turkey are without the experienced Gokhan Gonul to face
Ronaldo could be an issue and one can expect the Portugal captain to
steal the headlines here.
Portugal 2 - 1 Turkey
