Team News
Netherlands
Bert van Marwijk is likely to make changes from the team that beat
Slovakia 2-0 in midweek, with the likes of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar likely to
start.
However, questions have been asked as to whether van Marwijk will play
both Huntelaar and Robin van Persie, given the fact that he favours a
system with just one up front, and both of those players were that lone
striker at their respective clubs.
Youngster Jetro Willems may get another chance at left-back after unexpectedly making the final cut for Euro 2012.
Probable lineups : Stekelenburg, Bouma, Vlaar, Heitinga, Wiel, Bommel, Jong, Robben, Sneijder, Persie, Huntelaar.
N.Ireland
Steven Davis, Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt have all been overlooked as
Northern Irish manager Michael O'Neill selected a young squad for the
game against Holland.
The team that starts will therefore be an unfamiliar one that contains a
few new names and could potentially mean a debut or two.
Probable lineups : Camp, Baird, Hughes, Cathcart, McGivern, McCourt, Clingan, Evans, Ferguson, Lafferty, Healy.
Prediction
Netherlands are one of the favourites to win Euro 2012, and will be huge
favourites to comfortably win here, given that Northern Ireland did not
even qualify and have a severely weakened squad at their disposal.
Bert van Marwijk will experiment with his players and will possibly use
this as an opportunity to test how well his 2 star strikers can work
together, with van Persie out on the right, as he was deployed for much
of their qualifying campaign.
Northern Ireland will not expect to get anything out of this game and
will play without any pressure on them. They will struggle against the
might of the Dutch, who simply have much better players in their ranks,
and even if they rest a lot of those, the score should still never
really be in doubt.
Netherlands 3-0 N.Ireland
