Siena had the strength to keep on winning when Lecce were coming back
furiously, and then dropped some points while their direct rivals did
the same. They managed to overtake Parma and reach Fiorentina in the
table, involving more teams in the safety fight and keeping their
chances alive.
Udinese have won only one of their last 8 Serie A matches, with a record
that is just not enough to compete for the Champions League spot.
Guidolin has done an impressive job to keep his team so high in the
ranking, but in the end has had to deal with too many injuries, a short
squad list and the consequent fatigue.
Siena need a win, mostly to show their rivals that it's going to be hard
to drag them down. At the same time, a draw against a bigger club like
Udinese could be satisfying, but two away matches lie ahead. So the
hosts are going to push to take the lead in this match, with an eye on
Udinese's counter-attacks and possibly tight marking on Di Natale. The
away side could be on their last chance to play Champions League
football next season, but Guidolin has too few options ahead of this
difficult match.
