Team News

Aston Villa

The likes of Marc Albrighton, Stephen Warnock, Ciaran Clark and Chris Herd all only returned to training on Thursday but could be in contention, with the latter pair both receiving heavy blows to the head in recent games.

Alex McLeish may opt for more experience in this game if his injury list lets up a little, with the likes of N'Zogbia and Heskey hoping to start.

However, youngster Samir Carruthers impressed from the bench against United and he will hope to feature, though a costly error from Nathan Baker should see Carlos Cuellar return at the back.

Probable lineups : Given, Lichaj, Cuéllar, Collins, Hutton, Albrighton, Ireland, Herd, Bannan, Heskey, Agbonlahor. (4-4-2).

Sunderland

Lee Cattermole could return for Sunderland, with John O'Shea also back available after a lengthy injury lay-off, potentially replacing Kilgallon.

Craig Gardner is likely to start against his old club, though he faces competition from Colback and Vaughan if he hopes to face younger brother Gary. Fraizer Campbell is also vying for a starting berth but Bendtner should keep his place.

Probable lineupsMignolet, Bardsley, O'Shea, Turner, Richardson, Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner, McClean, Sessegnon, Bendtner. (4-4-1-1).

Prediction
Aston Villa are getting drawn closer to the relegation battle after Wigan's latest win, now sitting just 1 point ahead of the Latics and this game has extra spice for the home side as it is the first time Martin O'Neill will return to Villa Park, with many of the home fans still displeased with the manner in which he left just before the start of last season.

McLeish will need to get his side up for this but won't be expecting any favours from O'Neill's well drilled side. A win would take some pressure off of what could be a huge game with Bolton next week but a draw looks the most likely, and overly familiar, outcome for the hosts.

Both of these sides have looked extremely tired of late and have won just one of their last 6 league matches in the process.
Aston Villa  1 - 1  Sunderland
