Team News
Gijon
Sporting Gijon put in a brave fight and even took a shock lead at the
Santiago Bernabéu last weekend, before eventually succumbing to a 3-1
defeat. That result leaves them eight points adrift of safety and with only 15
points left to play for, anything less than a win against Rayo will all
but seal their fate.
Roberto Canella and Alejandro Galvez are both suspended, but there is
some good news for Javier Clemente as Oscar Trejo has been cleared to
play as his fifth booking of the season was rescinded.
Clemente will also be able to welcome back Pedro Orfila and Formose
Mendy from injury, but this weekend's game might come just too soon for
Gregory despite the French defender returning to training ahead of
schedule from knee surgery.
David Barral was dropped from the squad completely for the match in
Madrid and isn't expected to return after being pictured out partying on
the night of the game.
Probable lineups : Pablo, Lora, Garcia, Botia, Orfila, Cases, Ricardo, Trejo, Castro, Cuevas, Colunga. (4-2-3-1).
Rayo Vallecano
Rayo also have a raft of players unavailable, but will be able to recall
Joel, Jorge Pulido and Diego Costa after all three were ineligible for
their 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last weekend as part of their loan
agreements.
Tito's suspension causes a problem for Jose Ramon Sandoval at right-back
and with no natural replacement Roberto Trashorras - who has been used
as an utility player in recent weeks - may be forced into a more
unnatural defensive position.
Alejandro Arribas and Raul Tamudo are also both suspended, whilst Michel, Javi Fuego and Mikel Labaka remain out injured. Emiliano Armenteros may be fit in time after he returned to training
late in the week, but Pape Diamanka is another who is definitely out as
he has been called-up to play in Senegal's Olympic Games qualifier
against Oman.
Probable lineups : Robles, Trashorras, Pulido, Bravo, Casado, Benito, Movilla, Piti, Michu, Armenteros, Costa. (4-2-3-1).

Sporting have showed a measure of spirit in their last two outings after
coming from behind to beat Levante before the Real game but it all
seems too little, too late.
Joel's return is also significant given David Cobeño's error for
Falcao's winning goal and although he could be busy, Rayo should cause
Sporting plenty of problems of their own and should also be good enough
to come away with something from the game.
Rayo looked toothless without the presence of Costa against Atleti and his return to the side will be a huge boost.
Gijon 1 - 1 Rayo Vallecano
