Team News

Liverpool

Liverpool's biggest team news is that they are without either of their first choice goalkeepers due to suspension. Pepe Reina was sent off at Newcastle and serves the final game of his 3 game suspension, while Doni, his replacement in those games, was given a straight red at Ewood Park in midweek, and thus misses out.

They join midfielders Charlie Adam and Lucas on the sidelines, with youngsters Martin Kelly and Jack Robinson both unlikely to return just yet to first team action, despite having restarted training.

Kenny Dalglish rested Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Jose Enrique and Stewart Downing as well as Daniel Agger for much of the game against Blackburn, clearly with his thoughts very much on the Merseyside derby at Wembley at the weekend.

probable lineups : Jones, Enrique, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Spearing, Henderson, Kuyt, Gerrad, Downing, Suárez. (4-2-3-1).
Everton

David Moyes confirmed this week that Jack Rodwell has picked up a recurrence of his hamstring injury and is unlikely to play again this season, and has also ruled him out of contention to go to the Euros with England this summer.

Steven Pienaar cannot play as he is ineligible having played for Tottenham in the competition earlier this season.

It is hard to know who Moyes will select with hardly any absentees. Sylvain Distin may return to the heart of the defence, while Darron Gibson is likely to come into the centre of midfield and Jelavic should return up front. Royston Drenthe will also be pushing for a starting berth.

probable lineups : Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Gueye, Fellaini, Gibson, Osman, Cahill, Jelavic. (4-4-1-1).

Prediction
The first of the FA Cup Semi-Finals looks set to be a cracker. A Merseyside derby at Wembley, with a place in the final up for grabs will undoubtedly be a feisty affair, with big tackles flying in and passion could well get the better of some players, so there could be a fair few cards shown.

Liverpool have been seriously below par in 2012 - their win at Ewood Park was only their third league win of the year. There has been much debate as to whether winning the Carling Cup and potentially the FA Cup as well would suffice as a successful season for Kenny Dalglish's side, given their league position. Being knocked out of the latter in the semi-final by their bitter rivals Everton certainly would not.

Everton have overtaken Liverpool in the table after a good run of 3 wins and a draw in their last 4 games, including their most recent match - a resounding 4-0 win over Sunderland after a devastating second half display. They stand every chance of getting a result and, especially given their superior league position, will be confident of doing so. However, Liverpool won the most recent Merseyside derby 3-0 and that may just play on the Everton player's minds. Although anything can happen in a derby, Liverpool's experience in the latter stages of cup competitions may just give them the edge.
Liverpool  2 - 1  Everton
